Job Summary:
PIC Group has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Plant Manager to support a state-of-the-art, ultra-low carbon, Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) plant located in Fair Oaks, IN. Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Plant Manager is responsible for management of the overall safety and efficient operations of the RNG facility. The Plant Manager will provide leadership to the plant staff in operations, maintenance, business, engineering, and environmental functions while ensuring conformance with all facility contracts, permits, and safety regulations. The Plant Manager will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and will serve as the primary interface between these agencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • During construction phase, coordinate with the construction team to ensure the project is constructed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule. This will include interfacing with utilities, local municipalities, regulatory agencies, etc.
  • Provide technical assistance, interpret drawings, recommend construction methods and equipment, and implement and maintain tight quality control measures.
  • Review and help develop change order requests to deliver a high-quality project.
  • During commissioning phase, monitor, document, and troubleshoot biogas operations per established procedures as well as coordinate and enforcing plant safety protocols, production rules, regulations.
  • Commission, test, and operate plant post-construction to ensure plant passes Operation Acceptance Tests (OATs).
  • Learn and thoroughly understand the sequence of plant operations, purpose and implications of control systems, source/destination of piping, and how operations of each impact other areas in the Company.
  • Assist the Project Team in developing and implementing project procedures, management tools and standards, etc.
  • Provide training of supervision and technicians on plant operations and maintenance.
  • Oversee daily operations of the plant to ensure that all production, financial, and safety goals are met.
  • Safely operate production equipment and systems according to established procedures.
  • Monitor efficiency of production processes via computerized systems and visual inspection of large equipment that can be extremely hot, heavy, under pressure, and at elevated heights.
  • Participate in hiring, promoting, training, and developing direct reports.
  • Assign and review the work of direct reports.
  • Assign job tasks to plant operators including but not limited to quality checks, plant performance, troubleshooting, general operations, and problem-solving.
  • Perform plant inspections including walking through the entire plant on each shift while looking and listening for equipment and process problems.
  • Perform quality-control tests and log accurate results according to established procedures.
  • Make extra checks on problem areas and adjust as needed for the optimization of plant throughput.
  • Keep up-to-the-minute records of activities, shutdowns, abnormal operations, troubleshooting, and problem areas.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Interpret company policies to plant operators and enforce safety regulations.
  • React quickly to problem situations and directions given by management.
  • Learn, understand, and comply with all plant safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned by management and Direct Reports
Job Requirements:
  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities and ensure safety, quality, production, and schedule adherence.
  • Ability to take direction, identify problems, develop solutions, conduct analysis independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Ability to work in difficult customer situations, react quickly to problem situations, and directions given by management.
  • Outstanding communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of commitment to the Company’s success.
  • Ability to share technical expertise with team members and the customer.
  • Ability to plan, organize, schedule, and direct the safe operation and maintenance activities of multiple complex projects.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude and a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic handheld instruments and computer skills for navigating spreadsheets and entering production data, including the use of CMMS systems and Fiix, as required.
  • Ability to record startup, shutdown, and production activities, including abnormal operations, troubleshooting, and problem areas.
  • Interpret company policies to plant operators and enforce safety regulations.
  • Ability to hold self and others accountable for safe operations, wear required PPE, and actively participate in regular safety training and testing.
  • Ability to perform special projects and other duties as assigned by management and Direct Reports
  • Ability to wear and appropriately use all required personal protective equipment (safety glasses, steel toe shoes, hearing protection, respirators, fall protection, hard hats, etc.).
  • Ability to work in confined spaces as needed (varies from daily to infrequently) and overhead work (reaching overhead and/or working on elevated equipment, etc.)
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift to 75 lbs.
  • Able to climb fixed and movable ladders up to 35 feet high.
  • Ability to repetitively lift/bend/kneel/walk/climb daily, depending on plant operation issues and work to be done.
Education / Experience:
  • Associate degree in a mechanical field, vocational technical diploma is required, bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • 10 years’ experience working in a process production environment, natural gas industry with understanding of process flow, or operations of gas compression equipment preferred.
  • 5 years’ experience in process manufacturing in a similar industry to renewable natural gas preferred.
